We received this email from Ward recently. Each member of our club interested in contesting should reply to him individually; that makes it easier than getting a club consensus as one voice.
Hello!
I’m the Northwestern Division’s Contest Advisory Committee representative.
We advise the ARRL’s Programs and Services Committee (PSC) on matters
pertaining to contesting. The PSC asks us to canvas our constituents from
time to time on various issues and this is one of those times!
The question regards the ARRL Affliliated Club Competition for ARRL
contests – if your club doesn’t participate in the club competition, kindly
disregard this message. At least one score was submitted on behalf of your
club in an ARRL contest – that’s why the email is sent to you.
Assuming your club does send in its scores for the club competition, is your
club satisfied with the scoring system (calculation of the final club score)
for the Affliated Club competition? (The current scoring system simply adds
the scores from each log submitted as part of the club.) If not, please let
me know of your specific concerns and include examples, if possible.

Calling Technique – Listening to the pileups on 3Y0X have confirmed a thought that I have had for many years. After repeated attempts to work a DX station, people tend to call faster and faster running the words or letters together. On CW it is fairly evident when letters run together. It is not so obvious on voice but the same thing happens there. It is vitally important that there be a slight but distinct pause between letters or words. Let each word finish before starting the next one and you will work more DX.

minutes as reported (motion/second/carried)
Treasurer’s Report: LaMar was absent this evening. Dale is taking
membership money this evening.
Dan, N5AR, will be posting some items for sale as soon as he has them all in
order and tested. Steve reported that he has added a new section to the
website called “FOR SALE!†where items may be listed. If you have anything
for sale, send the information to Steve and he will take care of posting it
for you.
The Google Group is up and running and seems to be doing well.
Hamfest: September’s Hamfest at University High School is set up. The
amateur radio club at the high school has become a sponsor for the hamfest.
Because of this the liability is being covered by the school. We now have
one more sponsor for the hamfest. Loren has been appointed as the liaison
for the hamfest information. Thank you Loren.
We will begin working on Field Day information and preparation at the
meeting next month (March). The dates will be June 24th and 25th.
Marybeth will begin setting up a list of all the clubs assets and where they
are. We are not concerned about where the stuff lives, only in what we have
and where to find it when we need it.
Last Year’s Salmon Run: No information yet.
