SDXA club score
(X/Y) X place out of Y club entries
CQ listing of USA only vs. worldwide

These contests include the ten in the PNW Challenge Cup. Other contests are mentioned for historial purposes.

For a combined score for CW and SSB separate contests, the number of entries is the number of CW and SSB combined. For CQ contests, some competition results are listed only for USA stations or worldwide including the USA.

Only the ARRL gives out wooden gavels for winners. SDXA has won four of these in the past. See comments on the gavels near the particular contest results.

2005 GAVEL WIN

In the Club competition in the 2005 ARRL International DX Contest (combining scores in cw and phone), our SDXA won FIRST PLACE in the Local Club Category. Our prize was an official ARRL contest gavel which was given to Lamar Ray WA7LT for his great contribution to the total score.

Lamar WA7LT with gavel

Our total combined cw and phone score was 2,432,637 points with 5 entries, beating out the Mt. Frank Contesters and Northeast Wisconsin DX Association. Congratulations to all who participated, Lamar for his multi-single hospitality, and Lamar and Gary for their high score contributions. Without the scores from both stations, we would have not taken first! A write up on our club win is on page 102 and 104 of the September, 2005 QST article.

2002 GAVEL WIN

In the Club competition in the 2002 ARRL November Sweepstakes Contests (combining scores in cw and phone), our SDXA won FIRST PLACE in the Local Club Category. Our prize was an official ARRL contest gavel which was given to Gary K7OX for his great contribution to the total score.

Gary K7OX

Our total combined cw and phone score was 985,614 points with 8 SDXA entries, beating out the Western Wireless Contest Club and the Raytown ARC. Thanks to all who participated and to Gary and Lamar for their high score contributions. Without the scores from both stations, we would have not taken first! This was a pretty big event for the SDXA as this was done in the first year of their existence.

2009 GAVEL WIN

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

From Ward N0AX’s ARRL “Contest Update” dated February 3, 2010:

“It seems that we just sent in the logs, but 2009 ARRL November Sweepstakes results are already online, including the Club Competition! Click on “Initial Results” for a PDF of the final results and the line scores. The searchable database, Log-Checking Reports and in-depth writeup will still be published on the usual schedule in QST and in expanded form on the Web. The effort to turn the scores around quickly was a great success and a big thank you is extended to the log-checkers and paper log data entry volunteers.

Due to an error in the Club database, the Northern Rockies DX Association was mistakenly listed as the winner of the Local Club category in the 2009 ARRL November Sweepstakes. The correct Local Club winner is the Spokane DX Association. (Thanks, ARRL Contest Branch Manager, Sean KX9X).”

There exists a website to post contest scores so that others can see your raw scores. It does not replace your having to send your score and log to the contest sponsors nor any local clubs which tally member’s scores for other projects such as the PNW DX challenge cup.

This website is commonly called the 3830scores.com which is the 80 meter frequency that used to be used to tally raw scores before the internet.

Now, some contesters do not want to advertise their final scores to other competitors in the same contest until all scores are official submitted to the contest sponsor and the window of submission is closed. In this manner, they believe that this prevents competitors from increasing their final scores by manipulating either contacts or multipliers once they see your score – basically cheating to win that plaque or certificate.

Most serious contesters post their scores to the 3830 site so they can quickly compare how they did against their competitors. Because these postings are raw scores, they are not necessarily the final scores after evaluation of errors.

Have you posted anything on the site? I remember a few years ago posting my score in a single band, 20-meter category contest. As more and more scores in my category got posted throughout the following days, I kept thinking that I was ahead of everybody in my category and might win. Then, one day, a score was posted that much beat my score by a lot so the expectation of me winning quickly diminished. But, for a while, I was on top. hi hi

Here is the LINK to the 3830 site. The site is managed by Bruce Horn WA7BNM who published the Contest Calendar.

WHERE DO I SEND MY CONTEST RESULTS?

.
Each contest sponsor has their own way and method for your sending in your results so it will be counted and published.

There are certain ham radio contests that count for the SDXA in club competitions especially the PNW Challenge Cup. As a SDXA member, your score helps our organization compete against other clubs. Every point counts!! The two primary contest sponsors are the ARRL and CQ Magazine. Each has separate eligibility requirements for counting the scores of club members.

To give the SDXA credit for your entry, make sure that the club listed on your Cabrillo file (or equivalent) is exactly:

Spokane DX Association

A multi-op contest at WA7LT’s QTH

ARRL:

The ARRL has a new section on their website for contests called the Contests Landing Page. There is a lot of information on this page including the contest rules. Be aware that there is a 7 day deadline for sending in your log for ARRL credit. After a ARRL contest, you use the page under the tab called LOG SUBMISSION to send your log to them. You have seven days only to submit your log to them to have it count.

CONTEST LANDING PAGE LINK

For the four ARRL contests we enter in the Pacific Northwest Challenge Cup competition between us and the other NW clubs, do the following:

— Use the Contest Landing Page Link (above) to send your score to the ARRL for credit.

— Send your scores via the SDXA Google Group so that our SDXA Secretary can tally the points. Your log is not necessary for this action. If you were multi-operator, list the operators too.

In case you make some points in the contest, but elect NOT to send your score to the contest sponsor, we can still use your points total towards our PNW Challenge Cup competition for the ten mentioned contests. If you are entering other ARRL contests, post your scores on the SDXA Google Group to inform (brag to?) the other members.

In the last few years, the ARRL had refined how clubs participate. Here is the link that explains who in a club can use their score to help the club and who cannot. Not all members in a club can participate for the club depending on their distance from the club’s “center.” Our center is the middle of grid DN17gp. If you qualify on distance, make sure you are on the club’s eligibility list maintained by our Secretary.

Our circle of eligibility is a 175-mile (282-kilometer) circle from our designated center (DN17gp) for the medium category (10 or more entries), Our SDXA Secretary is responsible for submitting the accurate eligibility list to the ARRL.

GARY K7GS – a long time ago

CQ:

Six of the CQ contests count in the PNW challenge Cup so notify our SDXA Secretary of your scores and categories. If you were multi-operator, list the operators too.

In case you make some points in the contest, but elect NOT to send your score to the contest sponsor, we can still use your points total towards our PNW Challenge Cup competition for the ten mentioned contests. If you are entering other CQ contests, post your scores on the SDXA Google Group to inform (brag to?) the other members.

For USA Clubs, participation is limited to club members residing within a 250 mile radius circle from the center of club area (middle of grid DN17gp). Single-operator entries may only contribute to one club. Multi-operator scores may be allocated to multiple clubs as a percentage of the number of club members participating in the operation. The log entry must spell out the full club name (and club allocations if multi-op). A minimum of four logs must be received for a club to be listed in the results. Checklog entries are not counted for the club score

Web upload is the preferred method of log submission. The exact URL to upload your log is in the individual rules of each contest. You do read the rules before the contest, don’t you?

All CQ entries must be sent WITHIN FIVE (5) DAYS after the end of the contest. Resubmitting an entry after the deadline will result in it being considered as a late log.

CQ does not require an eligibility list of qualified members from the SDXA. The club affiliation must appear on each contestant’s entry, and if there is any question there will be follow-up from the contest director.

All the CQ contest rules are available at this link:
