CQ ANNOUNCES 2009 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES<\/p>\n
(Dayton, OH – May 15, 2009) — CQ magazine today
\nannounced its 2009 Hall of Fame inductees,
\nwelcoming 15 new members into the CQ Amateur
\nRadio Hall of Fame, two new members of the CQ DX
\nHall of Fame and one new member of the CQ Contest Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
The CQ Amateur Radio Hall of Fame honors those
\nindividuals, whether licensed hams or not, who
\nhave made significant contributions to amateur
\nradio; and those amateurs who have made
\nsignificant contributions either to amateur
\nradio, to their professional careers or to some
\nother aspect of life on our planet. The 2008
\ninductees (listed alphabetically) are:<\/p>\n
Baker, Bill, W1BKR – President Emeritus, WNET-TV
\n(Thirteen), New York PBS flagship station.<\/p>\n
Barton, Loy – Developed class B plate modulation,
\nprimary method of modulating tube transmitters for decades.<\/p>\n
Bauer, Frank, KA3HDO – NASA Chief Engineer for
\nExploration Systems; International Chairman,
\nAmateur Radio on the International Space Station
\n(ARISS), 1996-2009; AMSAT VP Human Spaceflight, 1991-2009.<\/p>\n
Bridges, William, W6FA – Laser pioneer; developed
\nfirst “noble gas” lasers (argon, krypton, xenon)
\nand the dominant modulation system for feeding
\ndata into fiber-optic cables; Professor Emeritus of Engineering at CalTech.<\/p>\n
Fernandez Martin, Fernando, EA8AK – Member of the
\nEuropean Parliament, representing Spain; former
\nPresident of the Government of the Canary
\nIslands, former President of URE (Spanish IARU organization).<\/p>\n
Floyd, George, WA4DGA (SK) – Author of “Scratchi”
\ncolumn in CQ over four decades. An engineer and
\nexecutive at General Electric, he also wrote the
\n“Lighthouse Larry” column in GE employee newsletters.<\/p>\n
Haseltine, Eric, AB3DI – Former Associate
\nDirector of National Intelligence for Science and
\nTechnology; former Director of Research, National
\nSecurity Agency; former Executive Vice President
\nof Research and Development, Walt Disney Companies.<\/p>\n
Hollingsworth, Riley, K4ZDH – Former Special
\nCounsel for Amateur Radio, Federal Communications
\nCommission. “Cleaned up” the ham bands after 15 years of neglect by the FCC.<\/p>\n
Kilby, Jack – Inventor of the integrated circuit,
\nwhich revolutionized electronics, including amateur radio equipment.<\/p>\n
Krischke, Alois, DJ0TR – Prolific German author
\nof antenna books. Rothammels Antennenbuch, a
\n1000-page reference showing virtually every
\namateur radio antenna ever designed, is in its 12th edition.<\/p>\n
Maxwell, Walt, W2DU – Antenna designer
\n(specializing in spacecraft communications) and author.<\/p>\n
Miller, Lt. Gen. Thomas, K4IC (SK) – Deputy Chief
\nof Staff for Aviation, USMC (1975-79) – in charge
\nof all Marine Corps aviation; “father” of
\nshort-takeoff & vertical landing (STOVL) aviation
\nin the USMC. Close friend of Sen. John Glenn;
