The SDXA took 43rd place out of 74 in the club competition where the scores of both the cw and phone contests were combined. All clubs compete equally; there are no club divisions as in the ARRL. Our club score of 541,439 was more than the either score from the Western Washington DX Club (333,363) or the Willamette Valley DX Club (62,959).

There were 9 entries in the combination of both contests from SDXA members. Congratulations to all.

IT’S BOATS & HAM RADIO AT THE MARCH 1 MEETING

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

boat1
.
The March 1 meeting was presented by Mike Alfonso, N7MCA, whose obsession in the maritime mobile ham/boating world will take him and his XYL from Alaska to South America. His fully fitted sail boat, the Last Mango sets sail this Spring after a shake-down cruise last year. Amateur radio is the primary communications system aboard; his primary e-mail system is N7MCA@winlink.org. Mike’s presentation showed the fantastic photos of where he has sailed so far in checking out the boat along with the ham radio equipment and the installation issues on board. Mike spent quite a bit of time and effort designing and operating his radio room. From the presentation, Mike and his wife are experts in managing the boat and its electronic equipment for safety, communications, and position location. Thanks Mike for showing us what we can do with our retirement money!
