RANDY, K7TQ ENDURES WEATHER TO FINISH CONTEST

RANDY ICE

The picture is in the Clearwater National Forest near Elk River, ID on
February 2, 2001 during the annual FYBO contest. FYBO (Freeze Your Butt
Off) was dreamed up by a bunch of Arizona hams who thought it would be neat to
have a FD operation in the winter. Multipliers are based on the temperature
you operate in. Colder temperatures have a higher multiplier. The multiplier maxs out at 20 degrees F.

Info on the 2006 event can be found at :

http://www.azscqrpions.org/ScQRPion_OPERATING_EVENTS.htm

Randy says, “I’ve operated like that from a snow pit in 2000, 01, 02, and 04. There
wasn’t enough snow in 2005 so I operated from the ground. I’m hoping for snow
for this year’s event.” More of Randy’s history in this contest is at:

At a recent SDXA meeting, Rudy W7FCB from Rosalia was asked if he was the Mayor of the small town South of Spokane and he replied, “No, I’m the Emperor!”

WHEN YOU GET TO THE LIBRARY AFTER IT CLOSES

the key

A meeting of the SDXA is held outside the library due to “who was supposed to get the key before they closed at 6 pm?” Thank goodness it was warm outside although the concrete benches were a little hard to sit on.

DICK’S ANTENNA PROJECT, W7BHP

Here’s some of the latest antenna project activity from one of our club members. Interesting design, Dick!

Dale,

I am sorry, but I won’t be able to help with your antenna project on Saturday. That is because I will be working on my own antenna project.

On Wednesday evening last week, I received a new multi-polarized tri-band beam from Falling Tree Design Corp. I also have to reinstall my 75 m and 40 m inverted vee antennas as a result.

I have attached two pictures of the new design. I also attached a picture of some other work that Falling Tree did for me.

I hope everything goes well.

73,

Dick, W7BHP

WU7X REDISCOVERS RTTY!

Dale, WU7X came over for some RTTY Contest operating for the EA RTTY Contest @ KE7AJ & K7OX’s station. Apparently they had a lot of fun as Dale rediscovered an old mode.
